BST guide strips are PTFE guide parts used in hydraulic cylinders to absorb lateral loads and guide the piston or rod without metal-to-metal contact. PTFE provides BST strips with extremely low friction against metal surfaces, which reduces component wear and allows operation without additional lubrication under normal conditions.
PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) has the lowest coefficient of friction among known solid materials. Contact between the BST strip and the cylinder body generates minimal friction, reducing energy losses and surface wear. PTFE is chemically resistant to mineral hydraulic oils, biodegradable fluids, and a wide range of chemical agents. It operates at temperatures between -200°C and +260°C. You can find the complete catalog of guide strips on hydsealstore.ro.
BST guide strips are installed in the specific grooves of the piston or cylinder head and absorb radial loads generated by eccentric movement or external lateral loads. Without guide strips, the piston or rod would come into direct contact with the metal surface, causing rapid wear of both surfaces. Also compare with WRT guide strip made of CFP for higher lateral loads.
The BST strip is cut to the required length from the roll and installed in the guide groove. The correct length is essential: too short leaves a clearance that allows metal-to-metal contact; too long forces the groove. During installation, check that the strip is perfectly flat in the groove, without twists or overlaps. Also compare with guide rings for applications where prefabricated ring-shaped parts are preferred.
We keep BST guide strips in stock in standard widths and thicknesses. We deliver quickly throughout Romania. Order online or contact the Hydraulic Seals Store team for assistance with sizing.
